Here at Foursquare Day HQ, we are all about the grass-roots community. So when Walter Elly of MicroArts suggested a South by Southwest panel about Foursquare Day and the foursquare community, we were glad to support him and help spread the message. Are you already the "Mayor McCheese" of your local McDonald's on Foursquare? Get excited because this Friday the 16th could be your lucky day. We are very proud to announce that McDonald's are joining the celebration of Foursquare Day by offering special deals for Foursquare users on April 16th 2010. I don't like driving. I miss living in Chicago where I could just take the train everywhere. I don't have that option now, so I spend a lot of time in the car. In some ways this is nice, because I can listen to music or NPR and just spend time thinking about things. And of course, since I have this time to kill while driving, I'm always VERY tempted to check email, send tweets/texts or Google something. But I know from some past close calls that if I am using my Blackberry while driving, I am probably no better off than if I were drinking. So, I have developed a system. There have been a lot of rumors, and we received this badge from multiple sources in the last 18 hours. The Foursquare Team already officially recognized April 16th as Foursquare Day (that's 4sqday for short). Today, they let us in early on the announcement that this will be the badge awarded to those who participate on Friday. Now, I know what you're already thinking: "We love this awesome badge! The Foursquare Day story is one about people, ideas, community, Tampa Bay, social media, and crazy deadlines. Foursquare Day started as whimsical thought by Nate Bonilla-Warford. An optometrist by training, he has been a dabbler in social media for years. Immediately after Foursquare became available in the Tampa Bay area, he very quickly saw its value and blogged about it. From a personal standpoint, the friendly competition of the game was engaging.
