OFFICIAL: Foursquare Day Badge

There have been a lot of rumors, and we received this badge from multiple sources in the last 18 hours. The Foursquare Team already officially recognized April 16th as Foursquare Day (that’s 4sqday for short). Today, they let us in early on the announcement that this will be the badge awarded to those who participate on Friday.

Now, I know what you’re already thinking: “We love this awesome badge! We love Foursquare and 4sqday! What do we need to do to get this badge?!”

That my friends, I unfortunately can’t tell you yet. But Foursquare has advised we can announce that in about 24 hours. My advice? Spend a few minutes today and check out this page. I made that so everyone can see all the related links we’ve gathered about 4/16, the first social media holiday.  Click around, get ready, spread the word, and stay tuned!

    Although the unlock sequence is not known, this badge is authentic. The image was uploaded to the foursquare servers at 20:55:37 GMT on April 13.

    After a tip from Michaele Bailey that a placeholder had appeared in the iPhone app, I was able to identify the image file and post it less than 40 minutes after it was uploaded.

    I just hope that this badge is available to those that love foursquare but who just don’t happen to live in a huge city like NYC or LA.

    I also will be sad if this isn’t something that every Foursquare user has a chance to earn…some of us avid users in the middle of nowhere need to be able to access all of the cool and fun badges, too :)

    My guess is the badge will be available to those that check into locations that are having “official” FourSquare Day events that are registered on the website.

    This would make the most sense to me.

    Spotted an unlock in Australia (where it’s already 4/16), via Foursquare’s homepage scroll:

    If this badge really is available everywhere, it may be a simple as shouitng something about Foursquare Day, which that user apparently did.

    pretty sure Jon is right, that’s my feeling as well when someone asked me… you’ll earn it checking into official locations, and if their programmers are amazing, maybe even within the specific time frame :D

    I tried to post this once, but it disappeared into the aether….

    People on the other side of the International Dateline are already unlocking the badge. Judging by their tweets, it looks like it’s as simple as shouting “Foursquare Day” (or even using the hashtag) during a check-in.

    na4sq day was fun! Hope to do it again, soon. I love No. Andover & all the businesses here. It was fun to visit these places, message & talk to others. The perks were an added bonus. I met Paul tonight. Hel said this will continue. Hope so. Thanks for the invite and all the plans & prep. that went into it.
